About

Hi, my name is Liana Grey. Welcome to my food blog, Baker Without Borders! Here, you will find recipes I’ve developed and adapted, inspired by baking traditions from around the globe.

I studied baking at the Institute of Culinary Education and had a brief gig making desserts at a New York City restaurant.

I then went into the education field, where I used cooking and baking to teach kids about math, science, and world cultures. One summer, I ran a camp that brought kids from diverse cultures together through cooking and community service. I’ve taught baking classes for kids of all ages, and am writing a series of kids’ chapter books about baking. (You can find my other science-themed chapter book series on Amazon.)

I love to experiment with different flavor combinations, putting a personal spin on classics like pizza, biscotti, shortbread, and challah.

At home, I’m surrounded by food from different cultures. My mom grew up in Brazil, and taught me how to make doce de leite, brigadeiros, and avocado smoothies. My mother in law, from Pakistan, makes delicious parathas and introduced me to jeera biscuits: delicious cumin-studded shortbread cookies. Now, my five-year-old identical twins are learning to bake it all!
